But getting around in Shijiazhuang to one of the clubs could prove to be a difficult time if you don’t speak Mandarin. Consider purchasing a phrase book before arriving. It will prove to be invaluable.

Karaoke is very popular here, both with the visitors and the locals. There are karaoke rooms in most clubs, where you and your friends can drink and sing in peace. There are also large singing halls where the entertainment for the evening is from whoever is brave enough to get on stage.

Nighttime brings people out of their homes and into the streets. Whether they are out to walk their dog, practice Tai Chi, or just gathering in a park, many people spend their evenings out and about.

Another unique experience is the Chinese form of a “speak easy.” More like a digital singles bar, the waitresses will pick up pieces of paper from around the room. On these pieces of paper, you wrote a message that included your phone number or email. The messages were then displayed on an electronic board above a stage. It is in Chinese, of course, but if the other party is interested, you’ll be getting a phone call.

For a dance club, consider Disco City. It’s a large multi-level club. The top floor is for karaoke, the second has a smaller bar and plays a kind of techno music. The third has a large dance floor that bounced up and down with the beat of the music. You’ll find a lot of fun in and around Shijiazhuang. Experience this city on your next holiday.
