Oshawa Sights and Landmarks Guide, Ontario

There are many sights that could fascinate the holidaymaker in the city of Oshawa in Ontario, Canada. There are grand estates, fun farms and zoos, museums, theatres, and even natural offerings like the Lake Ontario. So if you are planning to be the quintessential tourist and take in all the sights in this large community in the region, then you will surely have your hands full.

Discovering Oshawa’s Natural Bounty

Lake Ontario
is possibly one of the most well-known lakes in America. One of the popular Great Lakes, this body of water is the easternmost one and is known to be the tiniest when it comes to the surface area. Serving as the national border between Ontario and the state of New York, the lake is where you can enjoy a number of water-based activities.

When it comes to animals, birds, and green areas, you can find these in the Oshawa Zoo and Fun Farm. With an interesting blend of domestic and exotic animals, the Zoo and Fun Farm is also known to be the center for saving orphaned species since 1993. There are more than 40 species of animals and birds in these 22 acres of fenced area. Aside from having its own kiosk for animal food, the zoo and fun farm also features refreshments and a picnic area for its visitors. The interactive fun farm enables kids to pet and feed the animals that are put in paddocks or enclosures. The domestic animals in the zoo include sheep, goats, pigs, mini donkeys, miniature horses and Dexter cattle, belted Galloway, mammoths and Texas long horns. The exotic animals here include macaws, llamas, monkeys, camelas, coatimundi, lemurs, wallabies, and Patagonian cavies, among others.

Grand Estates, Art, and Culture in Oshawa

Another interesting facet about Oshawa’s offerings when it comes to sights and attractions is the presence of grand estates. One of the finest that can be found in the city is the Parkwood; and this feature the interior, architectural and landscape designs known during the years 1920s and 1930s. Once the home of the McLaughlin family, the estate is now a famous national historic site that is open the whole year. Still intact and furnished exquisitely, Parkwood is where you can discover how living in Canada during the inter-war years was like.

Theatrical performances and other special events like concerts and live shows, which are great parts of the arts and culture of the city, can be enjoyed right in the Oshawa Little Theatre and the Civic Auditorium, respectively. The 362-seat community theater has been the source of entertainment in the region for over fifty years already. It is known for providing first rate musicals, comedies, and dramas to its audience over the years. Meanwhile, the Civic Auditorium is the place to go to when you want to look into the Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame and the Oshawa Generals, which is the OHL hockey team. This is aside from concerts and live shows held here regularly.
