Algiers Nightlife, Algeria

The nightlife of Algiers is a good mix of clean fun on top of normal chitchat over food or some drinks. The restaurants offer a wide array of cuisine ranging from Western, Middle Eastern, South Asian and of course the local Algerian cuisine.

In its few international hotels, there are a good number of nightspots where expats and even locals can dance the night away to the tune of the latest Western or Algerian music. Algiers is probably one of the most liberal cities in the whole Africa that has been attracting tourists from all over the world. The Algerians especially the inhabitants of the city are one of the most hospitable of people flashing their beaming and toothy smiles at random people. Tourists are bound to have a good time in Algiers whether during the day or late at night.

For a unique nightlife, a visit to the seafront promenade is one of the excellent choices. Although at some distance away from the sea, it is one of the best places for walking at night to gaze at the stars and the moon or to be captivated by the lights of the harbor while savoring the gentle sea breeze.

Speaking of the port just before, you can even set foot on the land, the small streets along the ferry terminals have small stalls selling food on skewers. They are called brochettes that sell a wide range of food like the tamer lamb meat to the more exotic kidney liver and the famous 'white kidney' brochettes or the ram’s testicles. That sure is a food adventure you will look for every day and night.

Not far from where the brochettes are, there is a little tourist haven known as El Mordjane. It is a traditional Algerian restaurant offering the best local food served in the way the locals eat their food: starting from mezes and ending with a tasty dessert. Sugarless coffee known as Sade is also a bestseller in the restaurant.

For those who seek seafood and European cuisine, the best place to go is La Colomba. Their menu is a list of traditional Middle Eastern as well more popular European food including fish, couscous and mechoui. La Sindibad another Algerian and Middle Eastern restaurant is also a perfect venue to satisfy your cravings.

Nightlife need not be a night in the club or bar to be fun. However should you be interested in those, the local hotels are the sure-fire ways to satisfy your cravings.
