A couple of days in Montreal, Quebec
Reviews > North America > Canada > Montreal > A couple of days in Montreal
Lots of people visit Montreal to shop in the wide variety of the international boutiques. Canada's currency as compared to the American dollar makes it very attractive for the Americans to come here.
The best place to shop in Montreal is Underground City. This continually growing, 'city' links lots of major buildings & multi-level malls in this area and it is the shopper's bliss in any period. One main section has reached through Peel & McGill metro stations on green line, as well as another through Bonaventure station on orange line. The East of McGill station is now growing axis from the Place-des-Arts metro via Complexe Desjardins & beyond.
Montreal is much more than this. While you visit, here you will be introduced to the new mode of living life to the full. Locals call it 'joie de vivre' that accurately translated means 'joy of living'. This is what the people of Montréal appear to do best.
Notre-Dame Basilica
Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal’s has nothing in common with the one in Paris apart from its name. It is a neo-gothic building that dates 1829; built on the site of an older & smaller church that has been outgrown by the parishioners.
Mount Royal
Looking from the peak of Mount Royal is an outstanding goal for urban walk. It is located in Mount Royal Park, which is laid out by the Frederick Law Olmsted. The beautifully appointed watch out terrace allows you to see downtown Montreal at your feet, with a view of the river and Monteregian Hills in the distance. All the sights are marked. There are no cafés or restaurants in the park but you can hang out here with the thought that you are just a few minutes away from downtown Montreal and their restaurants.
The Olympic Stadium
The Olympic Stadium was constructed in Montreal for the 1976 Olympics and now it is used for sports events and main concerts. Elevator ascends the world's tallest leaning tower and you can have a look from the top; the tickets are purchased at the base. The Stadium is Montreal's most exquisite piece of design. The Botanical Garden and Insectarium is on the way to Sherbrooke Street. On Pie-IX is the Château Dufresne, a grand mansion used sometimes for the art exhibits.

St. Lawrence was discovered by the French navigator Jacques Cartier in 1534 and reached the island via the river. Unique geographical position The destiny of Montreal nevertheless did not stop taking shape, and wrote its history decisively because of its unique position on the globe.
