First, this was a 2.5 days weekend trip to Ruegen. Just to let you know that this will be no detailed description of the island itself...

Well, to get there we were taking the train from Potsdam to Sassnitz. That is quite moderate when you buy a 'Ostseeticket', if possible. 40 Euros there and back within 9 days for the first person, any further person pays 30 Euros. For the nights we were setting up at very nice and clean camping ground in Nipmerow, about 8 km north of Sassnitz (http://www.ruegen-naturcamping.de/). It's right at the entrance to the national park. And it's absolutly affordable!

Now, Jasmund National Parkis very famous for it's cliffs, white chalk cliffs rather. Especially the so called 'Koenigsstuhl' is well known and probably most Germans have already seen it on pictures (http://www.koenigsstuhl.com/). However, it's not worth it to pay the entrance to that national park centre. You'll have plenty of impressive moments and views at several other places along the shore line.

In our case, we were brought from our camping ground to Sassnitz via bus shuttle. By the way, you can have excellent bread rolls with fish there. Delicious! From Sassnitz you can go all the way back to Nipmerow along the shore line either down at the water or above the cliffs in a beautiful beech grove. The track is signposted well and takes you about 4 hours at least. But probably longer because there's much to see! Nature galore! =)

Wasn't my last time on Ruegen. I'll be back! But next time for longer, definitely.

Recommended Koln Guide

Koln Sights

The Kolner Dom is probably the most well-known landmark of the city, and one that every tourist has got to see when visiting Koln. This amazing Gothic structure is over seven centuries old, and it is the second tallest church in the world. While you can enter the cathedral for free, there is a fee if you want to climb up to one of the towers. The Kolner Synagoge is another sight to see, especially for those who have a taste for unusual architecture. Koln has several neighbourhoods where you can find historic buildings. The local term for these quarters is ‘veedels’, and there are several of them. Agnesviertel is the city’s... Read more »

The versatility of Ravensburg - Apr 12, 2009, by Wazling
Ravensburg is a amazing place. In the two world wars it wasn't heavily hit, so the medieval town is completely preserved. It's really interesting to see for example the old town hall from the 15th century or the many towers of medieval... Read more »
