Getting around in LA, Los Angeles, California

Getting into LA was a bit tiring. I was all exhausted from the trip already. A good thing though is that you really notice being in the US again. People take it easy and they are friendly.
I picked up my suit case and headed out to get my car rental. There was barely any cars left over at Hertz and the guy gave me an upgrade. This was the second time I was given a break on this trip. First the flight and now the car, so nice:)
I headed over to see John and this was at around mid night. We hung out until around 1am and then I finally went to bed. The next day I got up and headed out to meet some friends over in Hollywood for breakfast and just to get ready for the conference. I notice that I left my dress shirt hat home and then headed over to some store to buy one. Finally with all my stuff together I headed over to get my conference passes. They had the yearly Victoria Secret show right next door and I was trying to get that pass as well, but without any luck:(
The conference started out much busier than I thought it would. We got right into the action and afterwards we headed out for drinks. I didn't know how tiring these things are, just because you talk all day and then you have to go through all the drinking afterwards.
This years PhocusWright was done really nicely. They had a main conference room connected to the speaker room. You could not hear the speakers in the conference room and vice versa, but they were passing out these head sets so you could walk around the pool area and listen to the speakers outside while grabbing coffee or snacks. I will upload an image to show.
The next day was rough as I had to leave at like 6am and so the next day I decided to stay with a friend around the area. After a very long day, drinks, and a Google party, we decided to head out to the Saddle Ranch on Sunset. This place is kind of cool, you can ride a mechanical bull and they had Karaoke. We went to bed at 3am and then got up at around 7. Anyhow, great experience and lots of good contacts made.
The conference went on for another day and then I was just about exhausted enough to hang out at a Hooters with one of my friends. I have not been to Hooters in 15 years and was rather disappointed. There is just nothing special about that place it seemed to me.
The day after I was meeting up with a someone from Germany who was also attending the conference. It's funny when you get confirmation for all the impressions you have visiting another place. California is AWESOME...
Anyhow, the next article will be about my trip to Vegas...
