Uhldingen-muhlhofen History

The closer area around the "lake of constance" was already settled in stone age times and at the bronze age. Archaeological findings prove that. That can be seen nowadays at the museum "Pfahlbauten Unteruhldingen". For roman times, even a small harbour could have been there, ancient coins from the 1st century a.d. suggest that thesis. At the place of Oberuhldingen, located near the roman street from Meersburg to the "Salemer Tal", the remnants of a roman "villa rustica" have been found. The name Uhldingen is being mentioned in records first in 1058 a.d.as "Oweltinga/Ouweltingen". [...]
