Though not a typical tourist attraction, visiting the fish market is something that gives you an insight into the trade of Japan and thus into its history and culture. Tsukiji Fish Market is noted the worlds largest in its trade and has a history dating back to the 17th century when Tokyo has been just developing itself.

Being a witness to fish-bargainaing, which I should mention start after 5am, so anyone interested in japanese-style auctioning should go to the market at around 5am. This is more recommended to those who have highly keen interest in the trade or who can't sleep at night! :)

5-2-1 Tsukiji Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Japan

Price:
Free.

Opening Hours:
5am-11am

How to get there:
Travel to the Tsukijishijo Station and exit on either on A1, A2 or A3.

Ota Dokan built the Edo Castle there. This era is known as the Edo era in Tokyo history. Edo or Tokyo was a small fishing village then. It was in the year 1590 when Ieyasu Tokugawa won the battle of Sekigahara and took the control over [...]
