The oldest building in the New Orleans is Old Ursulines Convent. It is also one of the most fascinating examples of French colonial architecture that you could possibly find anywhere. In addition to the main building, you can also see the convent's gardens, which are beautifully kept. The cypress staircase in the main building is really something, and there are lots of paintings and other art pieces decorating the halls.

Throughout history, the building used to be an orphanage, then it was transformed into a hospital and finally it served as a residence hall for the bishops of New Orleans.
