Harare Travel Guide, Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe is quickly becoming a nation for tourism, but before you plan a trip to Harare, you should study up on the cultures and customs of the area. There is a ton of shopping to do once you get to Harare, and there are dozens of restaurants where you can try the foods of the nation. However, keep in mind that you must register with the local authorities before you enter the country. Don’t be tricked by the news headlines popular around the world suggesting that Zimbabwe is a dangerous place to go, but keep in mind that their laws are much different from many places, and just taking pictures of the wrong things could get you in trouble.

Zimbabwe is coming more and more to depend on tourist cash flow to keep their economy afloat. As such, Harare is full of residents who are more than willing to show you around, tell you a bit of history, and give you a few tips on places to stop for lunch. There is a ton of history in Harare, and you can only begin to scratch the surface by visiting any of the libraries or older sectors of the city.

The climate of Zimbabwe is warm, and they really only have two seasons to speak of. Their summer months are dry and hot, and the winter months, while short, provide a little bit of rain, and a slight cool down in the temperatures. Harare has a tourist season that lasts nearly year-round due to the wonderful weather, and the lack of large storms and other natural disasters to the area. If you are looking for a nice retreat during the cold months of winter, Harare is a beautiful place to spend a few months.

While the majority of Africa is struggling economically, and there is word of national disasters on a regular basis, Harare seems to have safe guarded itself against those things. From time to time there is a fuel shortage or a food shortage in parts of the city, due to problems in other parts of the country and all of Africa. However, Harare boasts an almost European feel, with classy hotels in large plazas, and side walk shops lining every road. Harare’s  tourism is thriving and is heavily influenced by all of the European visitors to the area.

Planning a trip to Harare, Zimbabwe can be a long process, having to notify authorities of your intentions along the way, but in the long run, this could be one of the best vacations you ever take.
