Location
Ciudad Guayana, Venezuela is located in Bolivar state, where the river Orinoco is joined by the river Caroni. The city stretches over 40 kilometres long along the Orinoco coast, and makes for one of the most important ports of the country. The rivers banks also make for great tourist attraction. The city of Ciudad Guayana, Venezuela is actually composed of the two towns of old San Félix in the east, and the new Puerto Ordaz in the west. Since the two towns are separated geographically, being located on the either sides of the river, they have been joined by bridges to form Ciudad Guayana, Venezuela. Presently there are three bridges connecting the two sides of the river.History
Ciudad Guayana, Venezuela is a new city, and was discovered quite recently, in the year 1961, with the development of the project that caused merging of the two towns of Puerto Ordaz and San Félix. This project was initiated by the Corporacion Venezolana de Guayana, which merged the two separate pieces of land into a single city.
In this short span of time this area has developed into one of the most important industrial centres of the Venezuela. An interesting fact to note is that the design and the layout of
Ciudad Guayana, Venezuela has always been subject to much critique. The layout decided by experts from Harvard and MIT, though created quite a powerful and modern structure, (often attractive to outsiders and tourists) the adverse social effects often raise questions.
The Del Caroni Ecological Museum provides good visitor information, about the history and culture of the place.

Also worth mentioning is the Guri Hydroelectrical Central that never fails to thrill, especially visitors form outside.
