Museo de Anzoátegui is one of the oldest buildings of Barcelona. This piece of colonial architecture was built in 1671.
The La Casa Fuerte or the House Fort at the Avenida 5 de Julio stands over the remains of old Convento de San Francisco. The fortification was used by the Republicans to protect the region from the Spanish. This National Monument is the symbol of Venezuelan War of Independence. More than 1600 soldiers were killed here by the Royalists forces.
