Spokane Travel Guide, Washington

Spokane is one of the largest cities in Washington State and its size matches its importance. It is a commercial and cultural centre and a good starting point for all those who want to explore the nearby area.

The city itself is worth exploring too as it has a long history, beautiful green areas and the river slicing through the city is one of the major attractions. This river called the same way as the city was what attracted people in the past, too. The first settlers on the river banks were the Native Americans who explored its riches, especially the salmon that came in during the season. Later the colonists chose the falls to set up their trading post. Today people stop by the falls that are right in the city, the surrounding is just a bit different.

Nevertheless, the sight is a delight and it’s a drop of nature right in the city. Here you can relax and unwind walking in the nearby park or bike on the trails.

The renovated waterfront is also a great attraction, the rest of the city not looking bad either. This is mostly due to the fact that the whole downtown was reorganized after it was destroyed by a fire in 1889. Today everything comes to meet the demands of the visitors who have an easy job finding all the major attractions in the city due to the Spokane City Drive, a route that gives directions to all of them, a true guide.

This is a proof that the locals have made some efforts to raise tourism in the area, the city not being a tourist destination on its own. Other efforts were made in this sense when the World's Fair Expo was held here in 1974. The result is the Riverfront Park, a sight that attracted many eyes. It stands on an island on the Spokane River and gathers both locals and tourists together. Here you can find activities for all ages and interests, something to keep everybody happy and entertained. There’s ice-skating in winter, golf and concerts in summer. Different type of concerts are held at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist where a pipe organ is the main instrument. The family centre is the perfect place to go with the kids. To see everything from above you can take the gondola from the falls.

For those who stand less action and agitation is the Manito Park, south of downtown. Here you can find more peace and quiet walking its beautiful public garden and admiring the exotic plants and the beautiful flowers especially the roses when they are in bloom.

The area around the city is what attracts most of the tourists that is the Lake Coeur d’ Alene and the Idaho ski areas.

Whether you want to relax on your vacation, have an adventure, learn about history or just spend fun time with the kids, the city can fill your order.

Come to Spokane to enjoy the scenery, experience a great area to golf, fish, ski and much more.
