Pasadena History, Texas

Pasadena is one of the remarkable cities in Texas which gave the state years of continued patronage and celebration. The place is full of events which placed its name in history. It is most recognized for its efforts in making Texas a "Free Place". It is also famous for its own Strawberry Festival thus making it excel in the agricultural area. Here are significant parts in Pasadena History.

Pasadena History – The First Inhabitants

The first settlers in the area were the so-called Karankawa Indians. They lived along the shorelines of the Gulf region. Though they were considered as the first ones to live in the place, the East Texas Indians gave its name. Spanish conquerors named the place Tejas.

As early as 1800's, different inhabitants started to redeploy themselves in the area. A variety of people and races blended well together as transitions also happened. These settlers revolted against the Spanish government in the year 1821, thus leading to the formation of a place which is now known as Mexico. Back then, the state of Texas was included in the area.

Pasadena History – The Battle of San Jacinto

Tejas, the first name given to the place, had its own share of historical inclination. One of the persons noted in the earliest days of Pasadena History is Stephen F. Austin. Austin was a colonizer who evaded the place in 1820 together with some independent men. Altogether, on May 7, 1935, they managed to institute a war against the Mexicans. After six months of battle, their persistence, hard work and dedication bore fruit, as they came out victorious in the war.

The war was more popularly known as The Battle of San Jacinto. The event ended at the San Jacinto River and the place known as Buffalo Bayou. The intersection of the latter with another wetland known as the Vince Bayou is the area where Pasadena now stands. To make the area even more remembered through time, the capture of Santa Anna, a Mexican General, made Texas achieve its independence.

Pasadena History – Recovering From the Remnants of War

Since the devastation left by the war on the Buffalo bayou was quite extensive, there was a need to rehabilitate the place. With the help of the citizens, greater opportunities came for Pasadena. They made the former bayou a major seaport. Lowland as it was, the area remained open and utilized by cattlemen. After La Porte and North Railroad was constructed the place became more modern.

Pasadena History – 1900's to Present Day

Despite efforts of the local residents of Pasadena, development was rather slow. With the attempts to grow through several factors, the farmers as well as the settlers established a very strong alliance that led to the integration of education and religion in the city. However, in 1900, a hurricane devastated the place. People felt fear in their hearts thus moving from Galveston to the Ports of Houston.

The event led to the popularity of Pasadena. Red Cross Founder Clara Barton sent strawberry plants to feed many people who were frightened by the issues of war. From then on, strawberries were made as a good source of living thus enabling Pasadena to achieve its status in history.
