Atlantic City Travel Guide, New Jersey

It's hot and exciting and it's the cool place to be. It's Atlantic City, New Jersey, and it's better than ever, with its complete guide including non-stop gaming action, top-name entertainment, world-class golf and fishing, luxurious casino hotels and resorts and beautiful white sandy beaches. You'll also find opportunities for dining and shopping, attractions, outdoor recreation and so much more.

You can definitely think of it as a vacation destination if you consider that Atlantic City is within easy reach of most of the major Midwest and Mid-Atlantic metropolitan areas, it is convenient to get to and convenient to get around in. The resort is accessible by air through The Atlantic City International Airport which is located just minutes from the city and offers shuttle, taxi and rental car transportation or through Philadelphia International Airport which is a quick 60 minute drive via the Atlantic City Expressway, or you can get there by car and bus. Any way you travel you’ll find accommodations to meet your taste or budget, you can choose between a basic room for the night or go for the glamour offered by the many classy hotels.

Though known as America's oldest seaside resorts, among the big draw today is gambling. It's the East Coast's answer to Las Vegas. Tourists come by the millions to try their luck at the city's 12 casinos, 9 of which line the world's first oceanfront boardwalk, opened in 1870.

If you're looking for relaxation, and you aren't a gambling fan or don't want to catch a show, then Cape May is still a better option, it's cleaner and quieter, and the beaches are much nicer. Atlantic City's beach is free, family filled and surprisingly clean, considering its proximity to the Boardwalk. Beaches at well-to-do Ventnor are quieter, but charge users $3 per week. For the same fee, New Jersey's beautiful people pose on the beaches of Margate, three miles south of Atlantic City.

The city itself began life in 1854 and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2004 and now is in the midst of a multibillion-dollar renewal plan that has already resulted in sparkling new visitor centers, new bus and train terminals, a new outlet mall complex and a generally more cleaned-up appearance. And improvements are still being made: in 2004, the Tropicana will open up The Quarter, an Old Havana-themed complex consisting of added hotel space, several restaurants and retail venues, and an IMAX theater.

Most important of all is a change in attitude. Atlantic City clearly has Vegas aspirations in trying to become a playground catering to adults.

It doesn't really matter what you choose: casino gaming, spas, world-class entertainment, nightlife, fine dining, playing golf, fishing, water sports, shopping the city delivers an exhilarating experience.
