Traverse City, MI US – Overview: The Cherry Capital of the World
Traverse City was founded in 1852. The city is referred to as the most charming and scenic city in Michigan, US. Seventy five percent of the nation’s cherries are cultivated here and hence they are known as The Cherry Capital of the World. This city is named after the Grand Traverse Bay.
The surroundings of Traverse City are so impressive especially where the Leelanau Peninsula is located. This has also led to the city being nicknamed the pink finger of Michigan. With the opening of the new terminal of The Cherry Capital Airport, it is much easier to reach the city.
Climate
Traverse City has cold winters - a characteristic of the Northern Michigan Region. As it is situated along the lake, it witnesses a lake effect snow. During May or early in September, snowfall is expected in the city.
