The city of Springfield is the city of Abraham Lincoln and the huge number of historical monuments which are related to him in some way or another. The touch of such a famous personality makes this city a very important tourist hot spot in the United States. Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library is one of the most important tourist hot spots in Springfield. This awesome museum features some of the very rare artifacts that are related to Abraham Lincoln and many people who used to be around him during those days. The museum interiors are 21st century style and hence they make this place an important tourist hot spot worth visiting.
Old State Capitol was the monument that served as the seat for the government of Illinois between 1839 and 1876. This is the monument where Mr. Lincoln stayed during his last few election campaigns. In 1865 his body was laid down here for the mourners, around 75,000. You can take the 30 minute guided tours or you can buy a 15 minute video. The building has paths for handicaps hence making it easy for them to visit the monument.
Lincoln Tomb is located in Oak Ridge Cemetery which is the second most visited cemetery of the United States. The only cemetery which attracts more tourists when compared is Arlington National Cemetery. The large monument is the place where Lincoln rests together with almost every member of his family also buried here.
