Panama City, Florida is located on the panhandles of north-western Florida on the Mexican Gulf and St. Andrews Bay. It has been a well-known tourist attraction as it offers a friendly atmosphere and comfortable climate all year round. The attributes of Panama City provide an attractive environment of living compatible with different life styles and tastes. Most people come to Panama City because of its pleasant climate, water and fishing sports, attractive housing facilities, entertainment and arts and a pleasant environment of a small town life. Apart from that, the city has a lot of attractions that are a must see for the visitors:
Architectural sites: The story of how the Panama Canal was built has been powerfully depicted in the Panama Canal Murals that are mounted in the rotunda of Panama Canal Administration Building. Plaza De Francia is located at the southern point tip which displays big stone statues and tablets that dictate the role of French in construction of the Canal. It has been dedicated to the 22,000 workers who died during the construction of the Canal, most of whom were from Guadeloupe, Martinique and France. Plaza de la Indepnedencia of Casco Viejo is the site in which the independence of Panama was declared in 1903.
Religious sites: The Baha’i House of Worship has been located on the Panama City outskirts, at a distance of 11 kms from the city center. The interior is breathtakingly beautiful and a fresh breeze is always present here. All Latin America is served by this house of worship. Iglesia de San José provides protection to the Golden Altar that was the only valuable thing after sacking of Panama Viejo by Henry Morgan. As per a local legend, when the news of a pirate’s attack was heard, a priest tried to cloak the altar with black paint and told him that another pirate had already stolen the altar.
Natural sites: Situated at the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal, Calzada is a 2 km palm tree line which connects the 4 islands of Perico, Flamenco, Culebra and Naos to the mainland. Residents come here every morning and afternoon for walking, jogging, skating and cycling as it provides a great escape from the pollution and noise of the city. Parque Natural Metropolitano is a 265 hectare park which protects tropical semi-deciduous forests within the limits of the city. Nature Trail and Titi Monkey Trail are the two major walking trails in the park, both of which join and form a long loop.
