Fort Collins Travel Guide, Colorado
In its early years Fort Collins was a military post named for Lieutenant Colonel William O. Collins. The settlement developed as a center for quarrying, farming, and sugar-beet processing and now is still a fast growing city in all aspects economical and in the number of its citizens.
The Colorado State University has its part in the city’s development. Established in 1870, it is renowned for its research advances in space engineering and bone cancer and for its forestry and veterinary medicine schools but its Department of Music is also appreciated as featuring a variety of dramas, concerts and musicals.
The city’s local art scene is a thriving one and visitors can see many art galleries and a diverse collection of over 40 completed works, and there are a lot of public art sites located along roads, pedestrian trails, on buildings and in parks. Artistic and aesthetic values are incorporated in the city’s projects.
With so many breweries around one can hardly say Fort Collins is not a beer town. There are several excellent microbreweries ranging from the small ones to the giant facilities operated by Anheuser-Busch. Visitors can taste the types of beer these breweries produce while touring the facilities.
You can either choose to visit all of them or stick to a few. The choice is yours and you can pick your breweries depending on what you like. If you fancy top-quality Belgian-style ales head northeast of Old Town and you’ll find New Belgium Brewing Company that offer guided tours but you can choose a self guided tour and while you walk around you can buy some beer and souvenirs like glasses, caps and T-shirts.
Those more into English-style ales should not miss Odell Brewing Company producing popular draft and bottled beers. Its top attraction is the tasting room where you can sample some beer before making your choice. Souvenirs are also available.
An interesting and pleasant combination of pub and brewery is the Coopersmith's Pub & Brewing Co. that has a unique feature: visitors can view of the brewing process from inside the restaurant in a pleasant atmosphere while having a nice meal. If you feel like walking rather than sitting down you can join one of the guided tours and view the process of making a variety of ales including root beer, ginger ale, and cream soda.
Another restaurant offering a different view is the Mishawaka Amphitheatre & Restaurant located up the Poudre River. You can have your meal inside or on an outside deck both offering a beautiful view of the water. The atmosphere is enhanced by the bands playing in an outdoor amphitheater on the banks of the Poudre River.
Fort Collins has a wonderful center accessible to both those hearing and physically impaired called Lincoln Center that has acquired a first-class reputation as the principal venue for the performing arts. The center is home to the Fort Collins Symphony that performs both classical and pops music and features an outdoor sculpture and performance garden, three art galleries as well as 1,180-seat Performance Hall and the 220-seat Mini-Theatre. But there are plenty of other venues to choose from depending on what you fancy.
The city’s nightlife offers every kind of bar and nightclub imaginable and you can decide where to go depending on what you like. If you would rather have a drink in a different atmosphere, somewhere you can also dance and listen to some quality music Washington's is the best place to go to. You will mingle with college students as this is one of their favorite places to dance and drink. Sundance Steak House and Country Club welcomes visitors with live country music and free dance lessons while Sports Caster Bar & Grill caters to sports fans featuring 50 TV screens and 20 beers on tap.
Fort Collins is viewed as the perfect place for beer lovers but also for those who fancy outdoor activities like fishing, boating, rafting, or exploring Rocky Mountain National Park.

Really good coffee: Moxie Java on Harmony. Not the best location, but great flavor and friendly baristas.
