Cordova is one of the cities in Alaska situated at the southeastern boundary of Prince William Sound in the Gulf of Alaska. Cordova Sights – Important Edifices and Other Tourist Spots
Architectural structures are very important when it comes to seeing a list of things to explore in Cordova Sights. There are also other tourist spots to take note of. Here are some of the most significant spots to discover.
Orca Adventure Lodge. This is regarded as a distinctive site situated at the coast of Prince William Sound. The newly renovated place is the perfect source to discover the Gulf Coast of Alaska.
Library. This is situated on the First Street of Cordova, a building that is nearby the museum. It is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 1 pm to 8 pm.
Cordova Museum. This is also one of the attractions you can visit while in Cordova. The museum includes local work of arts and some data regarding the first travelers. It has also some displays of mining and railroad memorabilia and how these things developed.
Ilanka Cultural Center. The center commemorates Native American traditions of the Copper River Delta and Prince William Sound. It also offers a place of work for artists where tourists can join in doing some bead works, weaving and other kind of art classes.
USFS Building. This is the oldest building in Cordova erected in 1925. It is found in the Second Street and is open during weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm.
Copper River Highway. This is the site where you can see the Child Glacier and the Million Dollar Bridge created in 1910. You can also watch the wildlife traversing along the road like the black and brown bears, moose, mountain goats, beaver and a variety of birds.
Child Glacier. This is considered the most easy-to-get to glacier in the state. It is just a brief distance from corner to corner of the Copper River, at the edge of the road. When the big pieces of glaciers fall from the Child Glacier you may see fish thrown onto the ground.
Cordova Sights – Events and Festivals
Part of your desire to explore a city is to check on special events – possibly one that you have not yet experienced. Cordova offers the following.
Iceworm Festival. This fair is being held at the end of January up to early days of February. You can enjoy watching several activities during the fair like parade, dances, survival suit race, art exhibit and the most awaited proclamation of King and Queen of the Iceworm Festival.
King Salmon Derby. This event is being held every month of June during the Fleming Spit. Big cash prizes await the winner for the event.
Silver Salmon Derby. The event is during the month of August. The participants are sure to get prizes in both cash and goods that are given daily and weekly.
Although exploring the city may be done on foot, getting a view of all Cordova Sights is ideal by using other transportation options. By doing so, you may also visit other towns like Fairbanks and Talkeetna.
