Slough, UK - Overview: County that has everything for everyone
Slough is a county of Berkshire, and lies on the western periphery along M4 motorway and Great west road, spread in an area of 1538 acres. After the first world war, owing to its proximity to London, industrialization started in Slough and hence is has grown rapidly.
The history of Slough is very interesting, which occurred at an earlier time than its appearance and existence. Slough was first referenced in the reign of Henry III (1216-1272).
The city is home to Slough Trading Estate which along with the transport links makes it an important business centre. It is also the home of Thames Valley University. Slough is the UK headquarters of Masterfoods. O2 is also headquartered here. Slough is also the home to National Foundation for Educational Research.
The Slough Museum, which is free to enter, is a good attraction among tourist interested in knowing the history of the town dating back several years. The museum has two galleries displaying the heritage of Slough. It also contains artifacts and illustrations from the town.
In 1838, The Great Western Railway was opened and in 1849 a branch line was completed from Slough station to Windsor and Eton central Railway station for the convenience of the Queen.
Among the churches, the most famous ones are: St. Laurence’s Church and St. Mary the Virgins Church which was built in 1837.The St. Paul was created in 1904.Before this, all christenings, marriages and burials were recorded in the registers of Chalvey. The city has 96 listed buildings.
There have been major developments in the area in the 21st century. Old new buildings were taken demolished and new offices and shopping complexes were built. The most important is the heart of Slough project which will create public space and visual landmarks in the Thames valley.
The city also has arrangements for the pub and restaurant freaks. The type of restaurants actually depends on the type of food you are actually searching for and how you are getting around. There are a lot of places outside Slough for one who loves to drive. Outside one has access to places like Billet and the Red Lion. There are Indian, Chinese and Thai restaurants near high street.
