Kampala Travel Guide, Uganda
Kampala, Uganda - Overview
Kampala is not only the capital of the country of Uganda, it is the largest city as well. It is home to a population of around 1.2 million and because of that it is a fairly bustling metropolis that sees many visitors each year. People tend to have this image of Africa as being this rural continent where everyone is hanging out with the animals and for this reason the first time you see Kampala might be quite a shock and surprise to you, because it looks very similar to many of the other world's metropolises. It even has its own downtown skyscrapers, which is an image that very few people associate with the continent of Africa.
Another thing that is worth knowing about the city of Kampala is the fact that there is quite a large amount of racial mixture within the city proper. The local tribe in that particular geographical area of Africa is the Baganda Tribe and while the tribe does represent a majority of the people still living in the city. However, there are tribes from all over Africa represented in Kampala and there are specific historical reasons for why this is true. In addition to African tribes however, there are a fair number of non-Africans living in the city. This is such a large number in fact that most of the locals in Kampala have learned to speak English.
If you are interested in visiting the city of Uganda, there are a number of different ways that you can get there. The most logical way to get to Kampala would be to take an airplane into its international airport, although you can also visit the city as part of a larger tour that goes through other Ugandan cities as well as nearby countries in some specific tourism packages. The choice of ways that you can get into the city and get around it is actually quite larger than you might think and with the city on the verge of putting bus service into place around the city, it looks like the choice is just going to get better with the passage of time.
Kampala has many things going for it that should make it an appealing choice for most tourists. These things include a great nightlife, good weather, interesting local historical sites and of course good accommodations that will make this trip seem as luxurious as any other trip you've been on.
