Udon Thani, Thailand - Overview
Udon Thani is a province that lies on North eastern plateau of the land of Thailand and covers about 15,589 square kilometers. The boundary of Udon Thani stretches to the Nong Khai towards the north, Khon Kaen towards south, Sakon Nakhon east and in West till Nong Bua Lamphu.
It is actually located on the plateau with great mountains and densely forested area towards the west that stretches southwards alongside the provincial borders from the Amphoe Nam Som and near provinces of Sakon Nakhon and Kalasin towards south east. The plateau slopes down slowly along the Haui Luangstream till the north east of the province to Mekong River. The area that covers the Amphoe Muang, Amphoe Nong Han, Amphoe Kumphawapi, Amphoe Ban Dung and Amphoe Phen is therefore very fertile for the cultivation of rice.
Support centre for air force
The city actually became a very active support centre for Udon Royal Thai Air Force Base nearby during the progression of the Vietnam War and thus retains the reminders of the war time, with coffee shops, bars and various hotels. 47 kilometers east of the Udon Thani lay the Bronze Age Excavations at Ban Chiang of Thailand. It is among the world renowned archaeological sites. There are other many local tourist attractions in the city along with exquisite temples.

Nong Prachak
The Prajak Sillapakhom Lake, also called as Nong Prachak stretches vast within the municipality of Udon Thani.
Ban Chiang National Museum
It is situated at the Tambon Ban Chiang. The museum actually puts on the exhibition over different steps of the archaeological excavations, prehistoric and prehistory artifacts belonging to the north eastern Thailand along with tools, pottery, excavations, artifacts and ancient technology of the Ban Chiang.
Na Kha Village
This village is very much known for the cloth, “khit” that is hand woven and various products made from it are sold here at affordable prices.
Phra Buddha Baht(Holy Footprint) Bua Bok
Phra Buddha Baht (Holy Footprint) Bua Bok is enshrined at Foot of Khao Phu Phan that is 10 km west of the Amphoe Ban Phue that is itself about 50 kms from Udon and is greatly cherished and revered by the people. The pre historic paintings over the face of the cliffs that have been found are there in traces and yet make the view very beautiful.
Apart from these places, there are other places like the Udon Sunshine Fragrant Orchard Farm and Huai Luang Reservoir that form major attraction for the visitors.
