Lugano Sights – Museums and Galleries

Cantonal Art Museum. Found at the heart of history in Lugano, this museum has a display of collections of sculptures, photographs, paintings, and prints from the 19th and 20th century. The collected works include those done by the master artists of Ticino, the Lomabardy and the Veneto Region.
Historical Museum. Found at the Villa Ciani, this museum used to be the residence of the Lugano nobles until 1915. Starting from that year until 1967, the villa became a historical museum with a display of an array of artifacts all throughout the history of the city. The villa also became the City Museum of Fine Arts from 1932 to 2007. The museum then received the Antonia Caccia Foundation Art Collection.

San Lorenzo Cathedral. This Cathedral is considered the oldest church in Lugano. Some documents that date back to 875 AD mention the church as “Sancti Laurentii in Lugano.” Gothic vaults can be seen in this magnificent cathedral as well as a number of elements from the original building. According to an Italian Renaissance expert, San Lorenzo Cathedral could be envied by many Italian cities for its splendor.
Negroni Villa. This is one of the notable villas found in Lugano. Negroni’s architecture and the event in history that took place here are what make this villa famous. Negroni Villa was once the abode of famous Italian guests such as Giuseppe Verdi. The villa was then turned into the Center of banking studies of Lugano in 1976 when the local government purchased it.
Lugano Sights – Recreation and Relaxation
Switzerland is perhaps one of the places where tourists can relax. In Lugano, there are many places for both young and old to unwind and have a grand time.
Lugano Lake. The most magnificent sight in Lugano is this lake, which is also known as Ceresio. Found in between high, green mountains, the lake’s beauty is just breathtakingly spectacular. The tranquil waters of the lake change color and temper throughout the day and seasons. Water skiing, fishing and swimming are some of the activities which can be done in the lake.
Lido. This is a swimming resort which is one of the favorites in Lugano. It includes an Olympic sized swimming pool, middle-sized and children’s pool, and a bar restaurant. Every August, visitors are also entertained with an open air cinema called “Cinema al Lago.”
