Albina Travel Guide, Suriname And Jan Mayen Islands
Albina is situated in Suriname. It is a small country in South America that has ten districts. Albina is the capital of the Marowijne District. It is small town on the west bank of Maroni. It borders the country French Guiana.
The climate is tropical and to some extent, it is moderate by the trade winds from the Atlantic Ocean. There is pleasurable weather all year long due to its closeness to the Equator. Most of the people use English as the main language with tourists while they also communicate in their local indigenous languages such as Sranang Tongo, Taki-Taki, Lingua Franca and Hindustani is used to some extent. Dutch is used as the official language. There is a constitutional democracy form of government in Suriname which governs the people.
On the opposite side of the river, is a town named Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni. Albina is connected to the city by frequent ferry services. There is bus service to Albina. It is 150 Kilometers from Paramaribo.
During the 80s, nearly everything was destroyed and even the roads and other locations of the city were destroyed in the Maroons Rebellions.
Albina is connected to Galibi through small boats. These boats are called “Korjaal” in local language. The korjaal journey takes about one hour and a half in order to reach Galibi. Galibi is a place where visitors can see the various sea turtles. There are many reasons to go Galibi but the main reason is to see the turtles while laying their eggs. The turtles come from around the world and Suriname is the place that is suitable to lay their eggs. The government is taking care of those turtles and prevents them from being poached and hunted by fishermen. Nevertheless, the eggs are not safe because poachers collect their eggs to sell them in the market.
