Elche Travel Guide, Spain
Elche, Travel guide-About the City
Elche is a Spanish city located in the province of Alicante, on the banks of the Vinalopó River 45 miles away from Murcia. Head of the region of Lower Vinalopó, this settlement counts well over 220.000 inhabitants, and therefore it is the second largest city in the Valencian community. Here, you will enjoy the beauty of the Mediterranean, as Elche is a coastal city, and also delight your eyes with the sight of the famous Palm Forest, which is a UNESCO world heritage site. The latter is a symbol for this city and also the main touristic attraction, along with the representations of the mystery of Elche. In the next paragraphs of this Elche travel guide, I invite you to take a closer look at what this exquisite location is all about.
Elche, Travel guide-Climate
As expected, the climate present in this region is Mediterranean, but with arid influences. The winters are mild and the summers are quite hot, with an annual average temperature of 17-18 degrees Celsius. In summer the thermometer is often higher at values than 35, mainly due to western dry winds. Rainfall is poor and it occurs in spring and autumn with around 250 mm/year. To sum up, the weather in Elche is perfect for those of you who like warm, sunny weather, with no major variations in temperature.
Elche, Travel guide-Economy
Elche is a very dynamic city, economically speaking, mainly due to the industrial branch. A lot of the settlement’s revenue comes from footwear manufacturing: the town produces over half of all shoes made in Spain. Also, tourism and trade are two of Elche’s economic pillars; these two segments go somewhat hand in hand. The chemical industry and agriculture are also present, although farming is very limited compared to past decades.
Elche, Travel guide-Accommodation
There are various accommodation variants in Elche; you just need to choose the right one for you, based on how much you are willing to spend and which services you want to be delivered to you. If you’d like to be away from the city centre, Galicia Hotel, situated in the village de la Marine, is a great choice. This hotel has a number of 30 rooms with bathrooms.
Another advantageous accommodation offer is at Hotel La Posada, where a double room, with bathroom, TV, internet and breakfast included costs around 50 euro. You can stay at another facility, the Ramps Elche Residencia, where you can find single, double and triple rooms. This hotel is conveniently located in the center of the city, and its 24 rooms all have toilets, showers, air conditioning and TV, the price per night varying between 40 and 50 euro. If you love to stay by the beach, Residencia Galicia is perfect, because it is situated just a few meters from the sea and it has all the facilities you need, at an acceptable price.
