Ulsan Sights and Landmarks Guide, South Korea
Despite being the proud center of industrialized South Korea, Ulsan still dazzles the world with its natural beauty. Though limited, Ulsan Sights are commended for its scenic views and landscapes and will leave a lasting impression to anyone who visits them. It is indeed worth noting that it is one of South Korea’s prides and may be as splendid as Seoul Sights.
Ulsan Sights – Famous Spots
Ulsan may be deprived of historical sights like the other major cities in South Korea, but it still boasts of several magnificent views and landscapes that are unique to this metropolitan city.
Gangdong-Jujeon Black Pebbles Paved Seashore. This shore linking Jujeon to Gangdong is famous for its smooth, ball-shaped black pebbles, resembling that of a bird’s egg. Visitors of the shore often take off their shoes to walk along the shore. The small pebbles act like pressure therapy to their feet that help release pent up stresses in the body.
Gangeolgot. This is the location where the sun rises first in northeast Asia that is why the haemaji, or the welcoming of the New Year’s sun, is organized here every year. Another attraction to this place is the Gangeolgot Lighthouse, which was built during the Japanese occupation of Korea.
Jakkwaecheon. Considered an oasis because of its crystal clear waters and breathtaking landscape, Jakkwaecheon is a stream that extends from Ganwol Mountain over the sea to the front of Jakcheonjeong passing Deongeokri.
Bangudae. Having steep mountains, valleys and incredible rock formations, this place was named as such because it looked like a turtle lying on the ground. Bangudae can be found in Daegokri, Eonyang-eup. The Petroglyphs of Bangudae (prehistoric relics), a national treasure, are also found here.
Standing Rock. This jutted slab of rock formation, standing 33.3 meters, is found on the upper Taehwa River. It is believed that a white dragon once resided in this place. Visitors are sure to be awestruck by the beauty of this place like the poets from before who have been inspired by its view.
Paraeso Falls. Widely known for its water clarity, this waterfall is found amid a valley in the Yeongnam Alps. It was once used as a location shoot for a popular historical drama in Korea.
Ulsan Sights – Festivals
Festivals are meant to represent the kind of living a community has. Festivals in Ulsan are the same way. They promote the culture of the Ulsan people. Visitors can experience a glimpse of the Ulsan way of life and culture through these festivals.
Jangsengpo Whale Festival. This festival is held every May to celebrate the city’s former reputation as a whale hunting port. But instead of catching whales, the festival serves as a venue for introducing its marine industry.
Pottery Cultural Festival. The goal of this festival is to uphold the diversity and practicality of Oegosan pottery. It gives the tourists the opportunity to try first hand the process of making pots.
Ulsan Sights are magnificent on their own. Its wonders extend to the features found in Daegu Travel Guide. Be captivated by visiting this South Korean city.
