Cheongju Travel Guide, South Korea

Cheongju is the capital of Chungcheongbuk-do Province in South Korea. This T-shaped city is situated in the central region of the country. Tourists who want to have a vacation in Cheongju can take flights that will arrive at the Cheongju International Airport. This airport serves both international and domestic flights. The majority of the international flights are bound to and from China and Japan. City destinations include Shanghai, Taipei, and Shenyang. The major carriers are the Korean Airlines and Asiana Airlines.

Another way to reach Cheongju by air is to take flights bound for Incheon International Airport. From the there, tourists can get into Cheongju by taking a bus which costs around 16,000 won. Buses from Seoul also arrive daily in the city. The ticket costs 12,000 won.

The weather in Cheongju is considered continental. It has four distinct seasons. The coldest month is January wherein the temperature averages at 20 degrees low and 37 degrees high. The warmest month is July wherein the temperature averages between 71 and 86 degrees F. The month which has the most precipitation is August. Average rainfall during this month is 8.49 inches. Generally, the climate in Cheongju can still be considered mild.

Cheongju celebrates a lot of colorful events annually. One of these is Cold Breeze and Bright Moon Festival. The event was previously known as Choongbook Art Festival. The celebration presents Korean classical music and dance, fine arts and architecture, and literature. Cold Breeze and Bright Moon Festival celebrates its rich culture and art.

Another annual event taking place in Cheongju is the JIKJI Festival. The event usually runs for three days. The theme differs every year. It aims to promote the cultural heritage of the city, and to give joy and entertainment to the people.

The city also celebrates the Cheongju International Craft Biennal. This event happens every 2 years. It does not only promote the talents of the local citizens but the festival also presents folk crafts made by artists across the globe. Some participating countries are Great Britain, Russia, China, Japan and Philippines. Nearly all crafts are for sale.
