Cape Town Travel Guide, South Africa
Cape Town is one of the most important cities in South Africa. The city was established to be the docking port of different Dutch ships before the Suez Canal was made. It is currently the 2nd most populous city in South Africa and the most important when it comes to governance since most of the government offices are located in this city. Although the port is still there, the country’s economy is based on tourism, construction and mining. The city has an international airport which is usually a gateway for most tourists from different countries.
When it comes to tourism, Cape Town stands tall among other cities in South America. The city enjoys great weather for the most part of the year although during the months of May to September, it is a little bit chilly with high level of precipitation. Tourists often come down to South Africa to stay away from the cold weather in the north. Europeans and Americans usually come here near the end of the year since fall and winter set in there.
Beautiful beaches can be found in Cape Town and due to its location, the temperatures of the water vary from cold to warm. The most popular water based activities are whale and dolphin watching.
But tourists often come here to admire the history, culture and tradition of the country. Museums, which recall the past of the people in Cape Town, abound. Architectural influences from different countries especially the Dutch and the Germans can be found in different areas in the city.
One of the best kept secrets of Cape Town is actually its expertise on wines. There are wineries in different parts of the city and wine tasting is an activity most tourists will experience.
Although English is well spoken in the city, only 27.9% of the population speaks English. But even so, most newspapers in the city are in English and those who work in accommodation industry speak English. If you run into a bit of a language barrier, there will always be someone nearby who is willing to help translate what you want. It is highly recommended to travel with a personal guide for convenience.
Your stay in Cape Town will be truly memorable as you will be able to experience its beaches, culture and architecture.
