Ljubljana, Sights – General Presentation

Ljubljana, located in the middle of the Slovenia, is the capital of the country and the seat of the central government. With the passage of time, this beautiful city has received the influence of many important cultures such as the Germanic, the Latin and the Slavic ones. This has helped it to grow into the amazing capital it is today, guarding the seat of Parliament and of the Office of the President.

Ljubljana, Sights – Sightseeing and Architecture

A landmark of the Ljubljana Sights is represented by the Franciscan church, a unique red building located at the main Square of the city. Right in its vicinity you can find the famous Slovenian Dragon Bridge. Four brave dragons, two on each side, guard the locals and the visitors that pass by every day. The Triple Bridge offers a spectacular view over the Ljubljanica River. Right in downtown you can take a walk and admire the main square of the city which bears the name of the Slovenian poet, Dr. France Preseren. His statue, which has been a witness of so many events, is located right in the middle and wherever you look you will be mesmerized by the architecture of the unique buildings.

After visiting all these beautiful places, you cannot possibly miss Ljubljana Castle, the medieval construction situated on the top of the hill. In order to get there, you should take the funicular or you can drive on the sinuous roads till you reach the top. Besides the unique Baroque architecture, insides the cathedral you can see the Chapel of St George and the famous Piper’s Tower.

Ljubljana, Sights – Events

The most popular event that takes place annually is Secondary School Graduates' Parade, during which a group of dancers made up of secondary school graduates perform in the streets on opera music. This unique manifesto has been declared as a Guinness Book Record for synchronous dance. It is also in Ljubljana that Druga Dogba, once of the best Europe’s music festival is being held. Alternative music that it is difficult to fit into a certain musical category is being performed.
