Riyadh Travel Guide, Saudi Arabia

Riyadh happens to be the largest city of Saudi Arabia and the capital of the country too. Riyadh is located right in the center of the Arabian Peninsula and has a population of around 4000000 inhabitants. Riyadh has developed in the last couple of decades since Saudi Arabia joined hands with United States of America. Help from the USA helped Riyadh become one of the most highly technical cities of this planet.

The word Riyadh was taken from rawdha (an Arabic word) which originally means ‘garden’ (especially those that are found in the deserted areas). Initially the modern name Riyadh was applied to some sections of the land which was dominated by Orchards, Dates, and Palm Trees. Slowly the name was used in the complete city and hence Riyadh came into existence.

Riyadh has experienced big growths in population. During the 1960s the population of Riyadh was around 150000 inhabitants while as of today Riyadh has a population of around four and a half million people.

Summers in Riyadh can be extremely hot and the highest temperatures can touch the heights of 45 degree Celsius. Nights are cold in Riyadh as it is a desert area. Winters aren’t that cold and the reason behind this is the location of Riyadh which is actually a deserted land. Although Riyadh is located on desert area, it still receives some rainfall every now and then.

Riyadh has been built keeping in mind the latest technology and hence it has become an important tourist spot for tourists in last couple of years. The old city if Riyadh still preserves some of the old monuments thus saving it from the modern development. This has become possible due to the youth of Riyadh which has stepped forward to save the culture of Riyadh and the old buildings which are located in the old city of Riyadh.

Some of the famous landmarks of the new city of Riyadh are Burj Al Mamlakah, Burj Al Anoud, Burj Al Faisaliyah, Ministry of Interior Building, Riyadh TV Tower, Al Masmak Castle, and various embassies.

Riyadh was a small city in the olden days bus it has developed as one of the most happening metropolitan cities of Riyadh. It is the hub of many industries and an important tourist spot.
