An Overview of Ad Dammam, Saudi Arabia
Ad Dammam, Saudi Arabia is the capital city of Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. It is the biggest city of Eastern Province and the Dammam Port is one of the biggest in the Persian Gulf. The city has been served by the King Fahd International Airport that is around 20 km west and served by a 3-lane highway. Other surrounding cities of Ad Dammam are Khobar that is a flourishing modern economic hub, Dhahran that served as the headquarters for Saudi Aramco and Qatif that is a populated agricultural and fishing town.
The local stadium for sports is the Prince Mohamed bin Fahd Stadium.
The weather of the city is very hot during the summers and very humid ranging from 65 to 95%. However, the temperature drops to -4°C during the winters.
The city lies at the tip of the land that stretches out into the Gulf of Persia, forming a big industrial and metropolitan area. It has a population of around 1.2 million, along with Dhahran, Qatif and Khobar. It serves as a primary seaport that is involved in a huge variety of imports and exports. It has been a centre for natural gas and petroleum and there is also some agriculture dealing with dairy products and livestock. Ad Dammam is one of the most modern cities in Saudi Arabia and the international airport is shared by all the major cities of the region. Ad Dammam is the east terminus of Saudi Landbridge Project while the western one is the Jeddah Seaport.
One of the most popular recreational areas in Ad Damman city is the cornice that stretches from Tarot Islands to the Al-Azziziah beach. It is to be a popular place for families and friends and many open air art works have also dotted the road.
The King Fahd Park situated on Dhahran-Dammam expressway in the midst of Al Khobar and Dammam is a modern park equipped with pools, cafeterias, lagoons, amusement centre and fountains.
Another interesting location is Dammam National Museum. Situated on the 4th floor of the public library, it has an exhibition which details the entire culture of the place.
The Half-moon beach is a premier beach located in the eastern region and is so called because of its semi-circle shape. The beach gets incredibly crowded on the weekends and also there are two amusement centers nearby. The neighborhood area where Dawasir once lived is also an interesting place to visit.
