Krakow Sights and Landmarks Guide, Poland

The city of Krakow goes by many names. Nevertheless, the enchantment and excitement it puts across stays the same. The city was a Royal Seat for 500 years and because of this Krakow continues to be one of the cultural centers in Poland. The tourists’ list of places to visit in Krakow Sights is sure to be long since the city is wealthy in terms of tourist attractions.

Krakow Sights – Famous Landmarks

Krakow has plenty of extraordinary landmarks favored by many. Visiting these landmarks is like experiencing culture and getting immersed in the history of the city.

Eagle-Nest Castles. These castles are located in the so-called Eagle Nests Trail, considered the best trail in Poland. This historical landmark is consisted one of a group of castles quaintly found on the limestone hills in the city. Most of the castles were constructed in the 1300s under the governance of King Casimir the Great. There are around 25 castles found on the trail and exploring each one may take a tourist a week to do so. Although this is the case, the visit is very satisfying since all the castles are breathtaking.

St. Mary’s Church. The most famous landmark in Krakow is this church which was constructed during the medieval era. It is located northeast of the Main Square and every hour, a trumpet is played at the tower. The style of the church is Polish Gothic with two very different looking towers. The interior of the church is simply magnificent. It has the biggest altarpiece in the world carved by Veit Stoss; this will definitely take someone’s breath away.

Krakow Sights – Museums

Museums are some of the places tourists want to visit whenever they go to a different location. Krakow Sights is no exception to this fact. In fact, the city has a number of memorable museums that visitors must see.

Manggha Center of Japanese Art and Technology. This museum is one of the city’s most distinctive cultural institutes. It is able to perfectly blend with the city’s atmosphere even though it has been a part of Krakow for a fairly short time. The museum showcases a collection of Japanese art and the so-called Polish Japanism collection. There is a café inside the museum serving a variety of Japanese teas and East Asian snacks.

Czartoryski Museum. This museum should not be missed when visiting Krakow. It displays Leonardo da Vinci’s “Lady with an Ermine”. But this artwork isn’t just the only valuable object which can be found in the museum. There are many precious objects dating back from antiquity to the 1800s housed in the museum. Mummies and sarcophagi from Egypt are also displayed in the Czartoryski.

Krakow Sights – Parks

When planning a quiet and relaxing walk through Krakow, do not forget to visit the following parks located in the city:

The Planty Park. Found in the Old Town, this green ring park divides the center from the loud exterior region. The 52-hectare park provides visitors a relaxing place after an exhausting day of touring the city’s Old Town. While in the park, visitors are also given the option to explore the 30 gardens. These gardens have different styles from one another.

Ojcow National Park. This park maybe the smallest national park in Poland but it certainly is one of the most stunning. It presents visitors with several remarkable landscapes and a great number of caves which people can explore.
