Rawalpindi is a city in Punjab Province and it is located near the capital city of Pakistan which is Islamabad. These two places are considered twin cities. While Islamabad is considered a modern city, Rawalpindi is old-fashioned and is more populated. Nevertheless, the city can still be an enjoyable place to visit. The city is also the base of the Pakistan Army. “Pindi” is the nickname used by the residents and tourists to call Rawalpindi.
Travel
The easiest way to reach Rawalpindi is through the Islamabad International Airport. Although it has the name of the city of Islamabad, the said airport can be found at Chaklala, Rawalpindi. The airport is served by 25 airlines and it has both international and domestic flights. Its main carrier is the Pakistan International Airlines. Some places that has flights to and from Rawalpindi are Dubai, Kuwait, Beijing, London, Manchester, New York, and Paris.
Another way of getting into Rawalpindi is by train rides. Rawalpindi Railway Station is the main railway that connects the city to various places in Pakistan. It has more than 10 train services. The train station has five platforms.
Other means of transportation that you can ride on to get to the city of Rawalpindi are buses and coaches. These have daily trips to other cities in the country. The coaches even serve meals if you are going for a long distance travel. Whereas when touring around the city, visitors can choose to ride mini-buses, taxis, auto rickshaws, or horse-drawn carriages called tongas.
ClimateRawalpindi has five distinct seasons. Spring is experienced during mid-February until mid-April while summer is from mid-April to mid-July. Autumn is from October to November and winter occurs from December to mid-February. The fifth season which is the monsoon happens from mid-July until the end of September. The weather in the city is on the extremes. Days are very blazing during summer while they are sub-zero and extremely chilly during winter.
Industry and AttractionsThe city of Rawalpindi has a very rich industry. One of the oldest industries in the city is the Woolen Mills and Hosiery Mills Industry. Other businesses of Rawalpindi are Silk Industry, Glass Factories, Chemical Factories, Marble, Handicrafts and Engineering Industry.
Rawalpindi has already become one of the most visited places in the country of Pakistan. It has a lot of landmarks which varies from museums, art galleries, parks and bazaars. Some of the top tourist spots in the city are Rawal Lake, Mughalia Wah Gardens, Lui Bher Safari Park, Lork Virsa, and Eidgah Sharif. On the other hand, the best places to shop for are the Raja, Bara, and Saddar Bazaars.
Rawalpindi, though being the exact opposite of Islamabad, has a lot of things to boast of. You will never find your stay boring because of the sights that you will see. Though the place embraces much of Pakistan’s tradition, you will surely have a wonderful time.
