Quetta City happens to be the capital of Balochistan, Pakistan. It is also spelled as Kuwatah which was actually derived from the word Kuatta which is a word in Pashto language that means fort. Quetta is the district headquarters for Balochistan and also a very important communication and marketing sector in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

This city is surrounded by various hills on different sides and also a natural fort within its boundaries. The hills that surround the city are Zarghun, Murdar, Takatoo, and Chiltan. These are again surrounded by 3 mountain ranges thus making the borders naturally covered. Quetta is located in the south western part of Islamabad and on the north western side of Karachi.

Quetta experiences very high variations between winter and summer temperatures and its climate is continental arid. During summers, temperatures can touch the heights of 40 degrees Celsius while temperatures in winters can reach the bottom of -19 degrees Celsius.
Summer hits Quetta in the month of May and stays till September. Autumn hits Quetta in the last week of September and continues till mid November. The average temperature during autumn is around 15 degrees Celsius. Winter stays in the city between November and March. Quetta also experiences snowfall during January and February. Spring lasts in Quetta between the months April and May. Average temperature in spring is around 15 degrees Celsius.

As per the latest estimate of 2006, the population of Quetta was around 760000 inhabitants whereas the population as per the census of 1998 was around 565000 inhabitants. These numbers exclude the huge number of immigrants that hit the city from Afghanistan every year. Many different languages like Sindhi, Brahui, Persian, Balochi, Pushto, Urdu, and Punjabi are spoken in Quetta thus giving the city a unique feel. The most important of these languages are Urdu (which is the national language), Persian, Balochi, and Pashtu.
