Utrecht Nightlife – The Vibe of the City
Being a cultural capital, Utrecht nightlife is sure not to disappoint you! Although it’s not as busy as Amsterdam Nightlife or that in Rotterdam, Utrecht has a lot to offer everyone once the lights go out. Being home to the largest University in Holland, Utrecht has many pubs and alternative spaces that are packed with students throughout the week and where you’ll find a friendly, safe and cheerful atmosphere. These places are usually not expensive at all and they’ll play anything from pop to techno and house. Students also hang out in theatres and cinemas, which is usually the way they start their evening before hitting the bars. There are quite a few alternative clubs where you’ll find rockers, punkers and hip hopers and although there is no proper dress code you will probably look weird if you go there and don’t wear an outfit according to the genre.
Utrecht Nightlife – Eating Out
Utrecht has an exceptional selection of international and traditional local cuisine, starting from fast food joints in the street to the most refined romantic or business restaurants. The Huize Molenaar, an 18th century mansion, now functions as a restaurant providing an intimate and yet highly sophisticated atmosphere. The Brasserie Luden is one of the most popular venues in the city centre, while the most refined restaurant in the city is considered the Grand Karel V. One of the more contemporary decorations and menus is available at Plein 50, where you have an elaborate seasonal choice and a very trendy atmosphere.
Utrecht Nightlife – Clubs and Dancing
Utrecht features a very good selection of clubs where you’ll find the hottest Utrecht nightlife events and the newest fashion on display. These are highly rated places that require a dress code and where you’ll usually find well known DJs mixing and delicious flamboyant cocktails at the bar. A five star club with very friendly atmosphere is Poema, which plays everything from techno to minimal and usually stays open until late at night even at weekdays. For thematic evenings and great inner organization try Club Monza, where you can drink a beer for no more than 2 Euros.
There are also many venues for live music where local and national artists come and play so you will definitely find what you are looking for on a night out in Utrecht.
