Kathmandu Nightlife, Nepal

Kathmandu nightlife happens in bars near Pulchowk, but is mostly focused on Thamel. Unfortunately, music cannot be played in public past 10 at night; but in Thamel, a lot of bars get away with staying open until way past midnight. You will find night hangouts here very similar to smaller towns like Varanasi and Aurangabad in India. Overall, Kathmandu nightlife offers a little something for backpackers and trekkers, as well as those who are looking for a more sophisticated night out.

Kathmandu Nightlife – Kathmandu Bars

Visit Sam’s Bar, if all you are looking for is a quiet out night with the locals. Sam’s Bar is open until 3 in the morning, giving you plenty of time to meet and get to know backpackers, climbers, and loads of other interesting people during your visit.

If you are a climber yourself, Rum Doodle Bar in Kathmandu is the place to be. Well-known by most people, especially those who have tackled Mount Everest (due to the Everest Summiteers’ Club); this bar and restaurant is where the party comes to. If you have tackled Everest yourself, you can even eat here for free for the rest of your life.

Tom and Jerry’s Bar is known as the best bar in town. This place is never empty and the best time to be here is from 5pm – 8pm for Happy Hour and free popcorn. With interesting memorabilia reminiscent to Hard Rock Cafes and several pool tables to play on, you can even drink cocktails here if Nepali beer isn’t your thing. Food can be ordered from Narlgila Restaurant, which is directly upstairs; and, if you wish to go someplace else to keep drinking when Tom and Jerry’s closes at midnight, Jump Club is right around the corner.

For those who love a more sophisticated and secluded scene, go to the heart of Kathmandu and find Tamas Spa Lounge. With beautiful yet minimal extravagance in its design, Tamas Spa Lounge is the most stunning bar and restaurant that you will come across in Kathmandu, no questions asked. A visit to Tamas is a visit to paradise with its outstanding sculptures and ponds.

Kathmandu Nightlife – Kathmandu Nightclubs

Kathmandu nightlife also has several nightclubs to offer. Located between the center of Thamel Square and Tridevi Marge, the Underground Bar is found on basement level and offers those who are seeking a night out to dance in a little disco just what they are looking for. With flashing lights and loud music, this is the place to be to let your inhibitions loose.

For the more swank and sophisticated crowd, Galaxy Discotheque is the swankiest place you will be able to find in the list of places to go for real Kathmandu nightlife. Galaxy Discotheque is extremely popular to the elite crowd and even sponsors several themed nights for any of their guests. Only advanced technology is used in offering the thousands of watts of blasting music in Galaxy Discotheque. This also happens to be the sole disco that can be found in a 5-star hotel in the entirety of Nepal.
