The city of Windhoek (also known as Windhuk in German) is the capital city for the country of Namibia. This city is located somewhere on the northern side slopes of Khomas Highlands (which is also known as Khomas Hochland in local language). Officially the city of Windhoek is said to be part of the Khomas Region which is amongst the 13 region that are part of Namibia. The altitude for the city of Windhoek is around 5500 feet above sea level.
It was during the World War I when South Africa took the control of Windhoek and used this city as the capital for South Western Africa which was of course under the total control of South African government. Later on when Namibia gained independence somewhere in the year 1990, the city of Windhoek was made as the capital city for the newly formed country of Namibia.
Since the foundation for the city of Windhoek was laid, the inhabitants of the city have always shown interest in sheep skin and slowly this business has come very far in this city. Today, in the Windhoek the sheep skin business is the backbone for the ever growing economical condition of this capital city.
The region in which the city of Windhoek is located can be considered as semi deserted region. Same is the reason why the days in the city of Windhoek are warm and temperature rises to its peak during the summer days. Nights as usual are colder than days due to the deserted surroundings. The annual average temperature for the city of Windhoek is around 20 degrees Celsius. You might think that 20 degrees Celsius isn’t that huge temperature but one should understand that for the city situated on a considerable height this kind of temperature will always be assumed to be warm. It is during the winter seasons when the minimum temperatures can go down to 5 degree Celsius. The city of Windhoek does not experience snow ever during the complete year and the highest temperature can go up to the heights of around 30 degrees Celsius.
The city of Windhoek is well gifted with every kind of transport system thus making it easy for the tourists to visit the city. Plenty of highways, enough railway lines, and couple of hotels make life easy for the tourists who regularly hit this city.
