Quatre Bornes was created as a result of the ordinance which was passed in the year of 1895 but was finally accepted in the next year. This is basically a small town located in Mauritius. It is believed that the rare and unheard name of Quatre Bornes was a result of the map which was created in the year1880 by Descubes. In this map, he had marked four boundaries or boundary stones which were of Trianon, Bassin, Palma and Beau Sejour. One of the historians believes that these bornes which had been marked somehow limited the other three districts which were basically Riviere Noire, Moka and Plaine Wilhems.

But at the same time, the history of the town also reveals that once in the year 1761, a land feud had cropped up between two landowners and the name of their case has impressed the name of the town. At the same time, there are other historians who opine that the name of Quatre Bornes has been taken from the name of some community in France. Though, till date, the real and reliable source of the town is not deciphered. During 1721, Wilhem Leickning, who is from the Prussian origin came and settled in the island and after his name only, the district of Wilhems was named.
