Gone are the days when Beirut and Tel Aviv were the nightlife hubs of the Middle East. Although the capital city of Lebanon and the second largest Israeli-city continue to attract partying-crowds, other Middle East destinations like Amman, Damascus, Dubai, Istanbul and such other cities have become quite popular with night-owls. Amman, for instance, has made its mark as a nightlife destination and here you not only come across Amman’s rich and mighty but also have hosts of wealthy Saudis drinking (for alcohol is not allowed in Saudi Arabia) and partying alongside westerners.

Like elsewhere in Middle East, Arabic music, belly-dancing and nargileh smoking are the star-attractions of Amman nightlife but you will also find western elements of entertainment like alcoholic drinks, European music, and dancing.

Amman nightlife is concentrated in the city’s western part. Although most of the bars, clubs and pubs are housed in the top hotels, you will come across many quality single restaurants that arrange varied entertainment during nighttime.

Amman Nightlife – Bars and Clubs

Under this head, we discuss some of Amman’s most frequented bars and clubs. We start with the Tche Tche bar. Situated close to the US Embassy, this bar is the best place to try out different flavored nargileh. You will quite like their selection of teas. Although people of both sexes are allowed here, female guests should avoid staying till late.

Now, coming to alcoholic bars, Amman has only a handful of these – Amigo Bar, Bigfellows Irish Pub, Champions Bar, Old Irish Pub and Saluté.

Amigo Bar is a dive bar in Jabal Amman; although food and drinks are a bit pricey, the relaxed ambiance and exceptional services will definitely please you.

Bigfellows Irish Pub is famous for its Irish traditional food and Guinness. Sports buffs will like this place as live screenings of international sports events are arranged here. Bigfellows is located in the Sheraton Entertainment Centre off Abdoun Circle.

Champions Bar is a bar in the Marriott Hotel. Being an international hotel, here you may have to shell out big bucks, but the food served here is as good as the beer.

Your other choices for an agreeable Amman night out are – Old Irish Pub (in the basement of Dove Hotel) and Saluté (behind the Iraqi Embassy).

Moving to clubs, JJ's at the Grand Hyatt Hotel is certainly the nightspot to go to. Here you will come across many young Ammanis (side by side foreigners) dancing to the latest music played by English DJs.

Kanabayé is the other most frequented Amman nightlife venue, known for its varied activities and entertainment – DJ-nights, Ladies Special events, salsa nights.

Amman’s bars and clubs mostly close by 1.00 or 2.00 A.M.

Amman Nightlife – Live Music and Other Cultural Centers

Music-aficionados also have something to look forward to in Amman. There is Blue Fig, a live-music venue in Al-Amir Hashem bin Al-Hussein Street. In addition, if you plan to attend an Arabic music concert, there is the Royal Cultural Centre in Al-Malekah Alia Street. Before we conclude on Amman nightlife, we advise you to stay away from the massage parlors because most of these are nothing but sleazy flesh-markets. And finally, respect local sensibilities and enjoy Amman nightlife to the maximum.
