Wakkanai Sights and Landmarks Guide, Japan

Japan has a lot to offer to the tourists that come here and it is the same case with Wakkanai. This city is also the official northernmost point of Japan thus it has something unique that you will not get elsewhere in Japan. The city is also famous for a unique museum which was built in the memory of the famous baseball player of Japan, Daisuke Matsuzaka. The museum has been named after his name and is an important tourist attraction for baseball lovers especially for fans of Daisuke Matsuzaka. He was the starting pitcher who used to play for Boston Red Sox team. He also won a bronze medal in the Olympics and was tagged the most valuable player of the 2006 baseball hall of fame.

If you happen to hit the city of Wakkanai in winter then you will get the chance to enjoy Ryuhyo (which means Floating Ice). This is visible in the months of February and March, so if possible, come then. It is actually the ice that drifts from the sea to the island and looks like floating ice when it reaches the proximity of Wakkanai. You can also enjoy dog sled races that are held in February.

Wakkanai houses the two northernmost national parks of Japan: Rishiri and Rebun. These are actually two different islands which are very close to one another. The twin islands (both tagged national parks) are the major tourist hot spots in this region. They are famous for the local wildflowers, awesome hiking facilities (available both for beginners and experts), and the beautiful landscapes. Rebun is smaller when compared to Rishiri but is equally spectacular in terms of natural sights.
