Shizuoka Sights and Landmarks Guide, Japan

Shizuoka is the capital of a group of 47 jurisdictions. This group is known as Prefecture of Japan. The area of Shizuoka has around 1400 square kilometers and has three wards in it. The wards of Shizuoka are Aoi - Ku, Suruga - Ku, Shimizu - Ku.

Japan isn’t such a huge country but it has always been famous for its unique style of architecture and friendly inhabitants. Shizuoka isn’t anything different from the rest of the country. There are many tourist attractions in the city like Kuno- Zan Tosho - Gu Shrine, Tokiwa Park, Sunpu Park, and Abe Waterfall, Nihon - Daira etc. These places attract a huge number of foreign / local tourists and they are major contributors to Shizuoka’s tourism.

Abe Waterfall happens to be listed in the top 100 waterfalls of Japan. The Ume - Ga - Shima Onsen resort is the best place if one wants to enjoy Abe Waterfall. Tourists can enjoy a healthy walk amongst the lush green environment around the resort and enjoy the beautiful view of the waterfall. Abe Waterfall is just two hours away by road from Shizuoka’s Railway Station.

Tokiwa Park, another tourist attraction in Shizuoka, is located just at 15 minutes walking distance from Shizuoka Railway Station. This park is famous for its fountain which is designed in a manner that it dances with music. One can enjoy the soothing music and the lovely lightning of the Tokiwa Park.

Another tourist attraction is Sunpu - Jo Castle where the remains of Tokugawa Ieyasu are buried. Tokugawa Ieyasu died somewhere in the year 1616 and his wish was that his remains should be buried in Sunpu - Jo Castle.

Gongen - Zukuri is another architectural style shrine which is famous for its stone chamber that is located between the oratory and the shrine. It has been recognized as an important historical monument for Shizuoka. The original coloring of the monument is still maintained by the government and this has helped them to present the building in its original style. It is located just 40 minutes from the Shizuoka Railway Station if you take the road.
