Shiraz Travel Guide, Iran
Shiraz is neither the largest nor the most populous city in Iran, but it is certainly one of the most charming. Shiraz is one of those Middle Eastern cities that bring to mind stories from the Arabian Nights, a city that captures the imagination of anyone who happens to set foot on its cobbled streets. Located in Fars Province in the southwestern part of the country, Shiraz is a city that has survived for millennia, and became one of the cradles of Persian culture. The most striking features of the city are its numerous gardens, mosques and bazaars where you can find exquisite silverware, carpets and local delicacies. Enjoy Shiraz’s famous wine, spend some time daydreaming in a lush garden and immerse yourself in Iran’s fascinating culture. This Shiraz Travel Guide provides some useful information for those who are interested in visiting this wonderful city.
Shiraz Travel Guide - Transport
The easiest and most convenient way to get to Shiraz is by plane. The nearest airport is Shiraz International Airport, which offers connections to other Iranian cities such as Tehran and Isfahan, and flights to and from Middle Eastern cities. You can easily catch a flight to Shiraz from Dubai or Kuwait. If your point of departure is in Europe or America, you should find a flight to Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Airport and travel to Shiraz from there. Travelling by train is also an option, but only if you’re already in Iran. The railways in Iran are in quite good condition and train rides are reasonably comfortable and cheap.
If the budget is an issue for you, the most affordable means of reaching Shiraz is by bus. Once you’ve arrived in the city, you have several choices when it comes to getting around. If you don’t speak or read any Persian, it would be better to take a taxi rather than using the local buses. If you need directions don’t hesitate to ask a local. Young Iranians usually speak good English and are ready to help foreigners.
Shiraz Travel Guide - Accommodation
If you are backpacking, you can find several budget hotels not very far from the city centre. Anvari Hotel is a very nice place, especially for people who travel alone. Rooms are clean and they are equipped with mini-fridges and TV, the staff is friendly and you can get some decent breakfast for a small fee. Aryo Barzan Hotel is a new and cozy mid-range hotel located in the city centre, within walking distance of the main tourist attractions. The hotel has an elegant little café, an internet lounge and the rooms have beautiful furniture. If you like luxury, this Shiraz Travel Guide recommends Homa Hotel, one of the best hotels in the city. The hotel is quite large and guest can enjoy all the usual luxury amenities such as swimming pool, free internet, laundry service and four quite good restaurants.
