Warangal Sights and Landmarks Guide, India
Warangal is a city in the south Indian state Andhra Pradesh. It lies in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh and is also famous by its historical names Ekasila Nagaram and Orugallu. Warangal has emerged as a famous tourist destination for various tourists due to its rich historical remains and various famous monuments. All these historical monuments have helped Warangal gain recognition on the traveler’s map of India.
Warangal Fort is just 2 kilometers away from the Railway Station of the city and it dates back to as far as 13th century. It has rich history attached to it and the awesome design of the fort reveals how good the architects of those days were. This fort attracts huge number of tourists every year.
Thousand Pillar Temple is also one of the most visited hot spots for foreign tourists. This famous temple reflects the Kakatiya architecture and their excellences in constructing huge monuments without facing any big problems. The expertness of Vishwakarma Brahminsin making sculptures is also reflected from this temple. The temple is triple shrined and has a star shape design. Rudra Deva is said to have built the temple somewhere in the year 1163. Some years back a well was discovered right below kalyanamantapam which gives a proof that the huge temple was built with water in its base.
Pakhal Lake is another famous tourist spot in the Warangal City. This happens to be a man made lake which was built somewhere in the year 1213. Kakatiya King was responsible for completing the work of this lake. This lake is huge in size and spreads over an area of around 30 kilometer square. It is located around 50 kilometers from the city of Warangal and a tributary which emerges from the River Krishna was used as the source of water for this huge man made lake.
Bussapur, a village, is another famous tourist spot for those who visit Warangal. The uniqueness of this village is the suspension bridge which is located right in the center of the village. The length of the bridge is around 180 meters and it built over Lake Laknavaram.
