Visakhapatnam Sights and Landmarks Guide, India
Visakhapatnam is one of the most famous tourist destinations of India and one will always find loads of foreigners taking sun bath on the beaches of Visakhapatnam. The shorter and more famous name of Visakhapatnam in its local language as of today is Vizag which also is easier for the foreigners to pronounce.
Numerous tourist attractions are part of this city and they are so much capable in attracting tourists that no other city of India can compete with them. It did take time for Visakhapatnam to actually gain fame on Indian tourism map as the government of Andhra Pradesh wasn’t that serious in promoting this city but slowly with fast growing planet Visakhapatnam has also become important in terms of tourism business.
Visakhapatnam is famous for its numerous beaches which play a major role in attracting the larger chunk of tourists towards the city. The only disadvantage being that the water has been polluted a lot due to industrial waste and hence swimming in them isn’t a good idea.
The most famous of all the beaches of Visakhapatnam is the Ramakrishna Beach which is also famous by the name of R. K. Beach. It is crowded even during the hot summers and a huge chunk of foreigners visit this place during the cold winters. The beach environment is very lively during the weekends but that doesn’t mean that people dive regularly in water like it happens in western areas. Here most of them are interested in watching from the sides! Another reason could be that many people have lost their lives while swimming in this beach.
Other famous beaches of Visakhapatnam are Bhimili (which is around 25 kilometers from the city and it is located in a village famous by the name of Bheemunipatnam) and Gangavaram (which is located around 10 kilometers from the city of Visakhapatnam and is famous for its lush green environment). This last beach Gangavaram is very famous amongst couples due to the environment that surrounds the beach.
Kambalakonda is a famous untouched natural preserve which is yet not known amongst most of the locals of Visakhapatnam. This proves that this place is yet very much untouched from human presence. The lush green environment and the breath taking silence of this area is just 20 minutes when on road from the city and all this makes it a must visit place for anyone who hits this city.
