Tiruchirappalli Sights and Landmarks Guide, India
Tiruchirappalli is a metropolitan city in the South Indian State of Tamil Nadu. Tiruchirappalli is connected heavily with the history of India and same is the reason why today it has become an important tourist attraction in India. There are multiple places that are regularly being visited by tourists and tourism has quickly become an important business for the locals of Tiruchirappalli.
Zoo has been an important tourist attraction in almost every city and this is the reason why the government of Tamil Nadu has planned to set up a new Zoo. This Zoological Garden will be set up near the River Cauvery thus the sides of the river will act as an important ingredient to bring in tourists towards the Zoo.
In the proximity of Tiruchirappalli Airport is located the Anna Science Center (famous by the name of Planetarium). This center is around 5 kilometers from the bus terminal of Tiruchirappalli and on the Pudukkottai Road.
Another famous tourist hot spot is the Dam named Grand Anicut which is situated across river Cauvery. The Dam is around 25 kilometers in length and was built by Karikala Chola somewhere in the first century C.E. The amazing thing about this dam is that this Dam is still being used for the irrigation system of Tiruchirappalli. The Dam is the largest man made dams during those early years and today it is very famous amongst tourists for the stories that are attached with it.
Upper Anicut (also known as Mukkombu) is another famous picnic spot in Tiruchirappalli. This is the place where River Coleroon (also known as Kollidam River) parts from River Cauvery. Huge number of locals regularly visits this place mostly during the weekends.
Kolli hills happen to be part of Eastern Ghats and are also famous by the name of Green Hills. This range is cut from many places by River Cauvery thus it gives it the look of small valleys which makes its site worth watching.
Viralimalai is another hillock which is famous due to the peacock sanctuary which is located on the foothills of this hillock. It is around 30 kilometers from the city of Tiruchirappalli.
Other tourist spots are Puliancholai and Sittanavasal.
