In the past Raipur was not such a famous city in India. Time changed and Raipur was named the capital of newly formed state of Chhattisgarh. It was soon recognized on the national front once many highways passed through Raipur. The four lane express highway that connected Raipur to neighboring Durg and Bhilai was an added bonus. Raipur is now being given the shape of world class city and Naya Raipur (meaning New Raipur) is being developed on the borders of the old Raipur. This new project is said to have all the amenities that the famous cities of this planet have. Railway lines, highways, and a busy airport have made Raipur and important city on the Indian map resulting into good inflow of tourist in the capital of Chhattisgarh.

Most of the religious acts related to Hinduism are performed around Telibandha Talab (a lake). In recent years, this lake has emerged as an important tourist spot for foreign tourists. Bottle House is also another famous spot in the capital. This house has the shape of a bottle. The city also has a 5 star hotel named Hotel Babylon.

A famous tourist spot of Raipur is the Burha Talab which means old lake (Burha means old and Talab is for lake). It is the largest lake amongst various lakes in and around the city. This lake is surrounded by green trees and this makes the lake an awesome place to visit. To add to this the lake has a small island right in the center of the lake. This island is also filled with lots of green trees thus resulting in an eye soothing site for the tourists.

In the proximity of Burha Talab you will find Dudhadari Temple. It is said that the temple is around 500 years old and hence becomes another tourist spot. The lake and the temple add up on the number of tourists that visit this city.

No tourist spot is complete without a museum and Raipur isn’t any different from any other tourist spots. A museum which was built in the memory of Mahant Ghasi Das is famous for various coins, paintings, sculptures etc which it possesses. A must visit place for various history lovers.

Some other worth visiting spots for tourists in Raipur are: Shaheed Smarak Complex, Nandanvan Garden, Champaran (a small town), Shadani Darbar, and the ever increasing chain of shopping malls.
