The city of Mysore (which has been renamed to the city of Mysuru) happens to be the second largest city in the state of Karnataka which is located on the southern side of India. The city of Mysore is also the headquarters for the District of Mysore and also of the Division of Mysore. The city is situated around 150 kilometer away from the city of Bangalore which is the capital city for the state of Karnataka. The name Mysore was inspired from the word Mahishūru which actually refers to abode of Mahisha which was a daemon in Hindu Mythology.
The altitude for the city of Mysore is around 770 meters and the famous Chamundi Hills are located in the proximity of this city. This city of Mysore stretches over an area of round 130 kilometer square and is slowly becoming very popular due to its proximity with the capital city of Karnataka which is Bangalore.
The annual average temperature for the city of Mysore is around 24 degree Celsius. The annual average highest temperature for the city is around 30 degrees Celsius and the annual average lowest temperature is around 18 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature ever recorded in the city of Mysore is around 39 degrees Celsius which was on 4th May 2006. The lowest temperature ever recorded here is around 9.6 degrees Celsius. The annual average rainfall for the city of Mysore is around 800 mm. Although the city of Mysore is located on a earthquake free zone yet it has been hit by average intensity earthquakes on a couple of occasions.
The city of Mysore is famous due to the huge number of lakes which it possesses. Some of the famous lakes which are part of Mysore are Lingambudhi, Karanji, and Kukkarahalli. Around 2 percent of the total area in which Mysore spreads in water while the rest is land. Along with its own lakes the city of Mysore gets drinking water from the two nearby cities namely Kabini and Kaveri.
The underground sewage system for the city of Mysore was created in the year 1904 and since then it has been keeping the city clean of the unwanted sewage.
