The city of Meerut is a municipal corporation which is part of Meerut District and is located in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. The city of Meerut is around 70 kilometers away from the capital of India, Delhi and this is what increases its importance. Another important reason why the city of Meerut holds an important spot for the government of India is that it has its own army garrison. A theory says that the city of Meerut derived its name from the city named Maya Rashtra which is actually the capital of the huge kingdom which was under the control of Mayasura (father of Mandodari who was the wife of Ravana).
