Mangalore Sights and Landmarks Guide, India

Not many people coming to India know about this beautiful place hidden among coconut trees. Mangalore, a small town in the state of Karnataka is one of the most beautiful locations in the peninsula region in India. The city has a mixed bag of Portuguese and Indian cultures. Mangalore sights offer you beautiful temples, cathedrals, cascading waters, scenic beaches and a lot more.

Mangalore Sights: Natural Attractions

One of the most scenic Mangalore sights is the Panambur Beach. Panambur beach offers fantastic scenic sights with smaller crowds as compared to other beaches in southern Indian towns like Cochin or Goa. You will get a chance to soak yourself in huge waves coming over the seashore. For those who prefer a rougher sea, there are the Suratkal and Someshwar beaches. You can come across waves as high as 30 to 40 feet at these beaches. No doubt these beaches offer a great view for the visitors. The untouched white sands of Ullal Beach will definitely impress those who love solitude. Another beautiful sight in Mangalore is the Kadri Hills. The sight is an adobe to beautiful flowers and picturesque beauty. The place has been developed into a picnic spot with few amusement rides for kids.

Mangalore Sights: Religious Attractions

Mangalore has a large number of beautiful temples. The most famous and the most visited temple of the town is the Shri Sharavu Mahaganapathi Temple. Then there is the Mangaladevi Temple that is around one thousand years old. The temple holds the honor of giving the town its name. The Kadri Manjunath temple in town stands since the 10th or the 11th century. The temple has one of the finest bronze statues of Lord Lokeshwar. The temple has a cow idol. The water coming out from the mouth of the idol is said to have great curative powers. The St. Aloysius College Chapel in town has beautiful painting of the 19th century engraved all over. The Kudroli Mosque in town is worth a visit, too.

Mangalore Sights: Other Attractions

Just around 10 Km from the town is the New Mangalore Port that is among the biggest ports in India. Then there is the Sultan Battery around six kilometers from the main town where you will come across a black stone watch tower constructed by the Great Indian ruler named Tipu Sultan. The Light House Hill Garden is a perfect place to see the sunset. The garden offers a great sight of the Arabian Sea and is one of the most visited Mangalore sights by the tourists as well as the locals. Visiting some of the restaurants of the town for authentic South Indian cuisine should not be missed while in this beautiful south Indian town.
